Nothing But The Best

Nothing But The Best

Released to coincide with the tenth anniversary of Frank Sinatra’s passing (May 14, 1998), Nothing But The Best salutes “The Voice” with an essential single-disc compilation of hits. It features 21 legendary songs from “The Chairman Of The Board,” plus a previously unissued version of “Body And Soul.” The collection is part of an international initiative between the newly created Frank Sinatra Enterprises (FSE), Warner Home Video, MGM Home Entertainment, Turner Classic Movies, and the United States Postal Service to honor Frank Sinatra, whose music and movies had an everlasting impact on popular culture. For a limited time, Nothing But The Best will contain a collectible, commemorative Sinatra stamp with official USPS first-day issue cancellation.

5 Stars So glad I made this purchase
I am so glad I made this purchase. It is the best. A great selection of songs that will be a lifetime treasure!

5 Stars Sinatra sets the mood everytime!
As a fan of easy-listening, there is nothing more relaxing or “easier” to listen to than Ol’ Blue Eyes. This cd presents 22 of Sinatra’s best-loved and most well known songs. Having this selection of hits on one cd makes it a great collector’s item for the Die-Hard Sinatra fans or a great introduction for those who are new to the Sinatra sound.

Put this disc in your cd player, pour yourself a glass of wine and unwind – by yourself or with that special someone. Sinatra sets the mood everytime.

5 Stars Great CD!
This Frank Sinatra CD is perfect because it’s Frank! It has all of the classic Frank Sinatra songs as well as some I haven’t heard much. I love listening to it while I’m cleaning!

5 Stars What a fine selection of Sinatra’s work
Frank Sinatra’s body of work extended over many decades. This CD captures only one portion of that oeuvre–but what examples of his work! This is a fine collection of his greatest hits from later in his career. Sinatra fans will enjoy this indeed.

Let’s consider some of the tracks.

“The Way You Look Tonight.” Great orchestration and a nice Sinatra rendition. His voice is still in pretty good shape here.

“I will feel a glow

Just thinking of you

And the way you look tonight.”

Smooth, velvety voice. . . .

“Girl from Ipanema.” Jobim meets Sinatra. What a nice song and what a nice partnership.

“Tall and tan and young and lovely,

The Girl from Ipanema goes walking past

And when she passes each one she passes says ‘Ya.’”

Nice rather understated orchestration with an emphasis on Sinatra’s vocal styling.

“Strangers in the Night.” A trifle, of course. His “shooby dooby doo” suggests that he, too, sees this as a bon-bon. Still, for all that, he makes something of this song!

“My Kind of Town.” I’m an Illinois guy, and I always cringed hearing his pronunciation of Chicago. Still, an affecting–and effective–song. He captures something of the spirit of one of my favorite cities.

Many other great songs (too numerous to enumerate): “Come fly with me”; “The way you look tonight”; “Luck be a lady”; “Fly me to the moon”; “Call me irresponsible”; “Somethin’ stupid”; “It was a very good year”; “That’s life”; “My way”–and many more.

Worth noting, too. “Moonlight Serenade,” hearkening back to his early career as a crooner. This Glenn Miller classic is well served by Sinatra. Fun to listen to!

And, of course, “New York New York.” A signature song of his, featuring nice orchestration and that Sinatra voice.

All in all, a pretty cool CD. If you want a sampling of Sinatra later in hi9s career, this isn’t a bad place to look.

5 Stars Best New Sinatra Album Of 2008 – 23 Tracks
We’ll see no more from Sinatra, so ANY new CD is a real surprise. There are plenty of music reviews already written, but I want to make sure everyone realizes that this CD has been issued through the United States Postal Service (USPS) in association with the 5-13-08 issuance of their Frank Sinatra Postage Stamp. IF you buy the CD through the USPS website, you’ll not get 22 tracks, but one extra bonus, for a total of 23 tracks. The extra Track 23 song is, of course, “I’m Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter”. They also include one of the first issue Sinatra Stamps mounted on a card inside the CD case. The USPS charge for all this…. $16.99
